Like our other reviews on Etymotic earphones, we have a lot of good things to say about Etymotic. Our overall verdict with the Etymotic Research MC5 Noise-Isolating In-ear Headset, we are afraid, will not be much different with others we have seen, err, we have listened to, so far. This model is once again another fantastic choice for the sub-$100 category.
The Etymotic Research MC5 earbuds feature a capable dynamic driver for enhanced response accuracy, a polished aluminum finish, and a full assortment of Etymotic ear tips that provide impressive noise isolation.
The Etymotic Research MC5 is lightweight, and the housings for the most part are of plastic. There are parts of the housings particularly the outer bits that are made of aluminum. The Kevlar-reinforced and well-relieved cables will do you plenty of good when it comes to durability and tangle-free issue. Overall the cabling is very user-friendly, flexible, and of best quality all around.
Like the other Etymotic in-ear series, the Etymotic Research MC5 audio details are phenomenal. The low end is punchy, but may not be as well-textured than the higher-end Etymotic ER4 and HF5 earphones, which is, of course, quite understandable.
The sound quality is clear, accurate, and detailed, but some users may find the Etymotic MC5 a bit lacking in treble extension and energy. Moreover, bassheads will find the bass response of the Etymotic MC5 very satisfactory especially for its price point. It is calm, tight, and controlled no matter how bassy the music you are playing.
As for blocking out outside distractions, the Etymotic Research MC5 is an ace. You have to be careful though if you are wearing the earbuds while jogging, cycling, or walking on a busy street. These earphones are perfect for commuting on trains, buses, or commercial airplanes.
The best thing also is that they don’t come with bulky noise-canceling controls or batteries, so you will be more comfortable traveling with them. The glider eartips also provide more comfort and better acoustic seal that will enhance your listening experience.
As implied above, we don’t hesitate to recommend the Etymotic Research Noise-Isolating In-ear Headset to our readers. From its remarkable sound quality, noise isolation capability, comfort, and other handy extras, the Etymotic Research MC5 earbuds have plenty of value to offer for its price range.
