Cheap Monster Beats By Dre Headphones

If you're into music in a serious way, then you want to get the best sound quality that you can.In addition, you want to be able to listen to your music on the move and look good whilst you're doing it,right? If this sounds like you, then you'll want to know more about Dr Dre headphones. In this article we take a look at their capabilities and let you know where cheap beats by dre headphones can be found.

Monster has managed to combine style with functionality in the Dr Dre range of headphones. So often manufacturers sacrifice one for the other, but not here. Not only do they look good, but the sound quality is good too.

Sounds are well balanced in the main, with a warm mid range and thumping bass. With some bass heavy headphones the sound can become "muddy" and unclear, but this isn't the case with the Beats by Dr Dre. The genres that really benefit are electronic, hard rock, and mid tempo hip-hop, although other genres are also very good for the most part. Whether you're into classical music or Heavy Metal the sound quality is excellent at low volumes and really pumping at higher volumes. You will enjoy any kind of music with these headphones.

The beats headphones are great for iPods, iPhones, and portable audio players. They deliver the full sound that you're supposed to be hearing. Being powered headphones you also get increased volume. The ear cups are well padded, providing a high level of comfort for prolonged listening. The right ear cup has a mute button hidden behind the "b" logo, whilst the left ear cup houses the noise cancelling switch.

So what's in the box? Well in addition to the Beats by Dr. Dre headphones, Monster includes a variety of accessories in the stylish red packaging. There are two, thick 3.5mm audio cables--one red for standard MP3 players and one black with a built-in microphone for use with your music phones (iPhone, smart phones etc) each about 4 feet long. You also get a dual-pronged airplane adapter and a quarter-inch adapter for use with your home audio system. In addition a hard-shell carrying case with a karabiner attached, is included. The Beats also come with a cleaning cloth to keep them looking good.

The Dr Dre range comes in a number of different styles, colours and prices. You can also get in-ear buds if that's your preference.

Beats By Dr. Dre Solo HD Headphones Light Blue

Beats Solo HD headphones are made for music lovers looking for high-definition headphones that look as good as they sound. Beats Solo HD headphones are the only Beats by Dr. Dre that come with not one, but two speakers inside each can. That means you get crystal clear highs and deep, rumbling lows in high definition.

Now in Comfort and Style Headphones that could study the true dynamics of today's music were an uncommon”until the famous Monster beats Studio hit the scene. Now, a new headphone in the Beats tradition, Monste Beats Solo. brings you Wonderful sound in a smaller, lighter on-ear design. With Beats Solo, you'll hear every sonic detail the musicians and recording engineers laid down in the studio. Deep bass. Hard hitting drums. Bold midrange. And clean, undistorted highs. All in a comfortable fit you can wear for hours.

Once again there is no skimping on design when it comes tothe Beats by Dr. Dre line of headphones. Everything is done with a polish and finish exemplifying the brand and the people they are marketing this product too. The pair of Solo HD's we got to test was the Solo HD (PRODUCT)RED Special Edition headphones. The packaging is the same like the big brother Studio “ the box slides out and is easily opened with a fabric latch exhibiting the beauty beneath the flaps. Inside the box are some random pamphlets, a neoprene carrying case, a Monster ControlTalk cable, and a Monster Clean Cloth to keep your Solo HD's in tip top shape. The case is not hard like the case included with the Beats by Dr. Dre “ instead it's soft and less bulky with a handle to for easy carrying. So the plus side with this case is that you can smoosh it into your over-stuffed bag since it's not a hard case. The downside though, is that you'll have to be careful not to put it next to something heavy or you might break your headphones.

The Solo HD's are indeed red all over but they do have have lots of gray too. The glossy finish is supposedly scratch resistant too. They have the ˜b' logo on both earcups and the Solo HD logo on both sides of the headband. There is also an ˜R' and ˜L' as well, so you are sure to wear them correctly. The earcups swivel and are padded and contour to your ears very easily. The padding rests on the outer parts of your ear, and the inner portion of the earcup has no thick padding, but just some thin cotton material which lets the music go directly into your ear canal. This is done for the best noise isolation as possible and also to prevent music from leaking out for others to hear. As a result, you can also pick up subtleties in the music that you may miss with a different type if earcup. It holds the sound in as if you're surrounded by walls. Lastly, the tri-fold design makes the Solo HD easy to travel with. I will say that although I have no intention of breaking the Solo HD headphones, they do feel somewhat flimsy in regards to construction. The previous Solo's did have construction problems with the headband's arms breaking easily “ whereas the Solo HD's are flexible enough for you to twist them “ but we wouldn't advise doing that purposely.

The Solo HD's are a welcome upgrade to the previous version of the Solo. They now have a glossy finish whereas the original pair had a Matte and more easily scratchable finish. The ControlTalk cable is also a welcome addition, making it convenient to use with your iPhone, and lastly, the sound is richer and more balanced than previously before. The overall construction of the Solo HD headphones still leaves me a bit wary and nervous, but I'm hoping that it's just in my mind and that I'm just being overprotective. The Solo HD headphones were designed for the fashion-conscious consumer who enjoys looking good while listening to music that makes them feel good. Whereas the Beats by. Dr Dre Studio headphones are geared for the serious audiophile or consumer also moonlighting as a DJ, the Solo HD works as a more subtle version of that mega-headphone.

This headset is a combination of high fidelity amplified stereo headphones and a USB headset in one. Not only does this headset provide a customized audio experience, but the audio quality itself is rich with the dynamic base that all serious gamers crave. The Gaming Headset allows players to hear subtle details and distant sounds in the game. The soft padded ear cups are purposely designed for adding more comfort, so that players don’t feel any pressure around their ears even after playing for full-days at a stretch.

Sennheiser Delivers Unplugged Studio Performances During The Newport Folk Festival , Bringing an Additional, Intimate Stage to Newport

Audio specialist Sennheiser once again created a truly unique performance environment at the Sennheiser Sound Lounge at the Paste Ruins during this year's Newport Folk Festival . In cooperation with Paste Magazine, Sennheiser hosted performances by Amanda Palmer, The Milk Carton Kids, Justin Townes Earle, Langhorne Slim and many others over the course of the nationally renowned three-day festival.

Sennheiser recorded and broadcast the performances to thousands of attending fans between Friday, June 26th and Sunday, June 28th using state of the art quality microphones, wireless systems and headphones from Sennheiser and an array of studio microphones from its German subsidiary, Neumann. Videos of the performances will be posted and shared on Sennheiser's social outlets, including Facebook [www.facebook.com/SennheiserUSA] and YouTube [www.youtube.com/sennheiserusa] over the coming days and weeks. Watch for updates and more information on Sennheiser's Twitter page [www.twitter.com/SennheiserUSA].

"We don't just participate in events in the traditional and often static way," said Stefanie Rei-chert, strategic marketing, Sennheiser. "We always look to create added value and deliver a deep and meaningful sound experience that only Sennheiser can deliver. We managed to do exactly that in Newport, and in the process we made several new friends who will not forget these special performances for a long while."

Premium Technology Delivers Unique Experience, Adding Value to Newport:

This is the second year in a row that Sennheiser and Paste Magazine have collaborated on these performances at Newport. The company's proprietary wireless technology, paired with the historic and alluring atmosphere of the Fort Adams Ruins, evoke an atypical musical experience that fans cannot experience anywhere else. Many of the artists performed in an unplugged fashion, so audiences could experience the music in its most natural and pure form; for many attendees, this was a highlight of the festival.

"It was a privilege to once again welcome Sennheiser to the Newport Folk Festival ," com-mented Jay Sweet, producer of the Newport Folk Festival . "For the second year in a row, the inclusion of the Sennheiser Sound Lounge at the Paste Ruins truly enhanced the festival expe-rience for all guests and musicians alike. And, thanks to the quality footage, even those who could not attend can experience the unique sounds, sights and vibe that make the Newport Folk Festival unlike any other festival, or place, on earth."

Nick Purdy, publisher of Paste, added: "At Paste we love to show more than we love to tell - matching Newport Folk's stellar lineup to Sennheiser's headphones give us a chance to give music fans an experience they'll never forget."

As music fans such as those attending Newport become more sophisticated in their own musi-cal tastes, they are also becoming more demanding in how they listen to music. Sennheiser is able to deliver an authentic, high quality listening experience through the use of Sennheiser and Neumann microphones, as well as through its unmatched wireless and headphone expertise. The result is a listening experience worthy of both the most discriminating fan's passion for mu-sic, and the artist's unrelenting craftsmanship.

Fans who were not able to attend the festival in person will soon be able to experience the music through high-definition video and the very same microphone feeds that were used during the actual performances.

Sennheiser Set to Conquer Headset Market

Sennheiser, a leading pro-vider of premium headset solutions, is pursuing major growth plans for the global Contact Centre and Office (CC&O) headset market. Building on its premium audio products and delivering headsets with highest voice clarity, modern design and excellent wearing comfort, the company aims to triple its market share with a newly completed portfolio and an increased head-count of sales employees between 2012 and 2018.

Sennheiser recognized the growing significance of headsets for the office environment at an early stage and has steadily invested a considerable proportion of its revenue in research and development to further enhance its product portfolio. Between 2003 and 2012, Sennheiser developed a competitive CC&O headset product portfolio, and revenues have risen by 19 percent annually. Since the launch of the DW Series in 2010, Sennheiser has increased its serviceable market and now addresses 80 percent of the total CC&O headset market. Today, customers can choose from a wide range of wired (CC Series, SH Series, SC Series) and wireless (DW Series) headsets. With the release in 2013 of the new Presence headset, a multifunctional premium wireless Bluetooth device, the company has now completed its comprehensive portfolio.

Furthermore, Sennheiser aims to increase its go-to-market power by investing heavily in sales and distribution and increasing the number of sales employees by a factor of 10 in its six key markets the U.S., Germany, the UK, France, Benelux and China from 2012 to 2018. "We will also continue to invest substantially in research and development to enhance and ex-pand our product portfolio," says Andreas Bach, President, Sennheiser Communications. "Wireless technologies and all relevant technologies to enhance hands-free communication are trends we are investigating."

The full portfolio comes at a time when the enterprise headset market anticipates substantial growth. Business analysts at Frost and Sullivan forecast total revenue of around $2.2 billion by 2019. One of the main drivers is growth in global demand for Unified Communications (UC) solutions. In today's office environment it is important not to be confined to a desk phone but to have several communication options, and Unified Communications works best with a headset. That is why an estimated 50 to 70 percent of companies that buy a full UC solution equip it with headsets.

Andreas Bach added: "Building on Sennheiser's 70-year legacy of sound leadership and significant opportunities in the global headset market, we are confident that our strong growth plans are within reach." The world-wide total UC-capable market for premises-based UC was $12.2 billion in 2011, up by 8 percent from 2010 and set to increase to $20.8 billion by 2016, according to a report by UC Strategies.

Sennheiser has prepared for this development by establishing formal stra-tegic partnerships with all the major UC players such as Microsoft, IBM, Cisco, Aastra Telecom, Alcatel-Lucent, Polycom, and Avaya. The company will expand these alliances globally to be able to deliver on more sales op-portunities both locally and globally. At the same time, Sennheiser will focus on new IT system integrator sales channels.

In terms of CC&O headsets, Sennheiser is a young and dynamic company with just 10 years' experience, but Sennheiser headsets benefit from 70 years of experience in audio and hearing aid technology. Sennheiser's heritage and DNA is in audio technology that has proven its quality in a variety of different applications: from headphones and microphones for music lovers to aviation headsets and audiology products.

Sennheiser Announces Shipment of its New HDVD 800 Digital Amplifier

Audio specialist Sennheiser announced that its new HDVD 800 digital amplifier is now shipping. The new amplifier is designed to provide a crystal clear, brilliant response and is ideally suited for driving the entire line of high-end headphones from Sennheiser, including the HD 600, HD 650, HD 700, HD 800 and other models.

The new HDVD 800 provides a crisp and detailed, distortion-free response — making the listener feel as they were sitting directly in front of the audio source. Designed, developed and manufactured in Germany, the new amplifier is a manifestation of the effort and vision that drives Sennheiser in the development of its high-end products, creating an unsurpassed level of acoustic performance.

Balanced sound image and impressive spaciality
Sonically, the HDVD 800 delivers a balanced sound image, maximum precision and impressive spatiality. It features a fully symmetrical layout that ensures even signal transmission from the source to the headphones. "The fully symmetrical principle effectively compensates for interference and distortion," explains Axel Grell, Sennheiser's High-End Product Manager at Sennheiser. "The sound therefore becomes much clearer as total harmonic distortion is minimized."

The HDVD 800 is also equipped with an asymmetrical input socket; when using this input, incoming signals are symmetrized before further processing takes place. Digital sources are connected to the rear of the unit as an AES/EBU input or S/PDIF (optical and coaxial). The HDVD 800 also features an extra USB input, which offers 24 bit data transmission at 192 KHz*.

Sophisticated materials for a premium touch:

A glass panel embedded in the aluminium housing of the amplifier gives a clear view of the top-quality interior of the devices. The rotary potentiometer is mechanically connected to the volume control by a 150mm long shaft. This unusually long shaft allows the signal path between the audio source and the potentiometer to be kept very short, thus preventing possible interference of the signal. High-quality components (Alps RK 27 quad) ensure that the volume is controlled with maximum precision and a fine rotary 'feel'. Also visible through the glass panel are the cooling element, the audio relay and countless MELF resistors for the amplifier.

The housing, the potentiometer control as well as the rotary switch for selecting the source are all made of anodized aluminium, while the front panel of the housing and the controls are milled from solid material. The HDVD 800, which is priced at $1,999.95, was developed and designed in Germany.

The Sennheiser Group, with its headquarters in Wedemark near Hanover, Germany, is one of the world's leading manufacturers of microphones, headphones and wireless transmission systems. Waterfi's New Waterproof Short Cord Headphones Reduce Drag and Tangles

Three years ago Waterfi began to break the boundaries between electronics and water by waterproofing the iPod for swimmers, surfers, and all active people. Since the beginning, one problem has stood out above all others, the problem of finding a good pair of waterproof headphones. After researching many different waterproof headphones and discussing ideas and preferences with their customers, Waterfi had been unable to find a set of consistently satisfying waterproof headphones. Waterproof headphones that had great sound, stay in the ears when swimming, have a shorter cord, and are waterproof all the way to the bottom of the pool. Waterfi then decided to create some, and today they excitedly announce that the Waterfi Waterprood Short Cord Headphones are here.

Tested at depths of 200 feet underwater and with an IPX rating of IP8, the Waterfi Short Cord headphones will survive even the most aggressive underwater applications. The cord has been shortened to a concise 11 inches as a direct result of customer feedback. "Many of our customers have called in and emailed asking us to look into shortening the cord to make set up easier and reduce drag in the water." explained Customer Support Manager Matt Junker. The short cord headphones also include specially designed silicone tips that create the most comfortable and watertight seal in the ear canal, securing the seal for kickturns and wipeouts. The jack has also been gold plated to ensure that corrosion is never an issue.

Currently most waterproof headphones suffer from poorer audio fidelity than their nonwaterproofed counterparts. Another constant complaints users have mentioned are the trouble keeping the buds in the ear during swim sessions and excessively long cords that can be a chore to manage.

The Waterfi Waterproof Short Cord Headphones are unique in the waterproof headphone market, set apart by the size of the cord, design of the silicone earbud, and Waterfi blue color. The shorter cord on Waterfi's new headphones gets rid of much of the slack that can drag in the water and be a hassle to manage. The shorter cord also simplifies the setup when the mp3 player is attached to goggles, a shirt collar, sunglasses, hat, swimsuit, or wetsuit.

Waterfi was founded in 2010 to free popular gadgets from liquid-related constraints and allow them to be included in everyday active lives. The company's stated mission: to free people to enjoy an active live through waterproof technology on a waterific planet.

Waterfi began when founder Royce Nicholas created a unique waterproofing solution for the Apple iPod Shuffle. Royce showed the Waterproof iPod to a select group of friends and began to offer it online at various e-commerce sites. The feedback he received for that initial waterproof iPod Shuffle was extremely positive and he soon began to expand that process to other gadgets. The ability to combine beloved electronic devices with water activities has been described by some as "addictive and compelling." As of now, Waterfi is still the only company in the world offering a complete waterproof solution for a variety of electronics, including the , Nike+ FuelBand and the Amazon Kindle Paperwhite.

"I really like the MOMENTUM On-Ear. It creates the link between fashion and music. Where it has always existed it's now shown in a physical form - it looks good, with great colors and the sound is brilliant. It really cements the bond between the two," says FashionBeans' Luke Todd.

The Best Surround-Sound Headphones Reviewed

The audio market is forever changing, and top of the range doesn't remain top of the range for long. So when you're looking for the best surround-sound headphones reviewed, it's always a good idea to check the date on those reviews. It also pays to consider what you're going to use the headphones for, as the best headphones for listening to music may not provide the best gaming experience or may not be portable enough to use with mobile gaming or sports devices.
For music and film
Whether you're DJing, mixing, or you just want the best from your music and DVD collection, the best surround-sound headphones for music need to combine comfort and noise cancellation with excellent audio fidelity and incredible bass. For professional sound quality at the low end of mid range, consider Sennheiser HD 518. If you don't mind chunkier headphones in the same price range, the Cresyn C720H may look ungainly, but it does the job. And because it's a closed-back design, it leaks much less noise than the Sennheisers. If you want to spend a bit more money without splashing out into the thousands of dollars, you might look at the open-backed AKG Q701s, while the MEElectronics HT-2 is an excellent choice from the budget range.
In-Ear Monitors
For listening on the bus, on the run, or for those who just don't like wearing a headband, ear buds, or in-ear monitors (IEMs) are the sensible option. Audiophiles needn't be content with the poor-quality sound reproduction and fit of cheap buds that come with MP3 players, smartphones, and mobile gaming devices as standard. For quality at a low price, it's still hard to beat Sony IEMs, but if you're prepared to spend into the hundreds of dollars, the Shure SE425 or Grado GR10 will take your IEM experience to another level. If you really want to go all out -- and don't mind a visit to an audiologist for a fitting -- custom-fit IEMs from Unique Melody are molded to the shape of your ears. They start at a shade under $500 and could set you back as much as about $1000.
For gaming
If you want the best gaming experience from your surround-sound headphones, the latest wireless headsets are hard to beat. For the Xbox, one of the best options is the Turtle Beach X41, which upgrades the analog audio signal from the base station to headphones to digital RF, making moving around easier without the sound dropping out. If you can, get your hands on a pair of Tritton Warhead 7.1 Dolby wireless surround-sound headsets that should be released in time for Christmas 2011. This is the first "truly wireless" headset that doesn't require a wire connecting the headset to the controller and that is designed specifically for the Xbox. For the PS3, Sony's own PlayStation (PS3) Wireless Stereo Headset may only be stereo, but it's designed to emulate 7.1 surround-sound.

What Are the Best Headphones for Jogging

What are the best headphones for jogging? Not all headphones can stand up to the wear and tear. Being able to take your favorite music on a run really enhances your workout and can help push you to your limit. But headphones can also be a distraction if they're constantly falling out or breaking. Here's how to evaluate a pair of headphones before you take them along on a workout:
Design
First, you should find a design that is most comfortable for you. Many joggers opt for earbud or sports headphones because they are lightweight. Earbud headphones and in-ear headphones are inserted into the ear canal. Sports headphones have almost the same design, except they are less intrusive and have additional support that goes around the ear for extra support.
Wire Length
In either model, you want to find headphones with a long enough wire so that the headphones don't fall out of your ears when you are exercising and short enough so that the wire isn't flapping about too much. One solution is earphones with a retractable wire.
No Noise Cancelling
If you're jogging outside, you don't want noise cancelling headphones. Headphones that block out ambient noise can be dangerous if they block out the sound of traffic. Being hit by a car can really put a damper on your workout. On the other hand, these headphones can be useful if you do most of your jogging at the gym or at home on the treadmill.
Two Good Options
For sports headphones, Sony MDR-AS5OG headphones are a good bet. They don't completely block out ambient noise and will stay on your head while you are jogging. However, the design may be rough on your skin for extended periods of time. For earbud headphones, Shure SE310 headphones are a good choice if you prefer to run indoors. They go directly into your ear, so there's nothing rubbing against your head and neck while you are moving. They may not offer as good sound quality as other brands, but they are durable headphones.
What it mostly comes down to is personal preference. Find a pair of headphones that are comfortable, and take them around the block.

How Do Wireless Headphones Work

Just how do wireless headphones work? Wireless know-how frees us from the binding constraint of ever-tangling cords and lets us enjoy our favourite music without the fear of the headphones being yanked unexpectedly from our ears if they catch the cord on something else. But how does the sound reach our ears without a cord, and which wireless headphone know-how is best?
The Base Unit
Regular headphones work when electric impulses are sent from an electronic tool, such as an MP3 player, to the headphones through the wire. Wireless headphones circumvent this connection by sending a signal through the air to the headphones. However, they need a base unit which is plugged directly in to the audio tool to transmit the signal.
Radio, Infrared And Bluetooth Signals
One time the base unit is plugged in to a tool like an MP3 player, it sends a signal to the headphones. This signal comes in three different forms: radio, infrared or Bluetooth. Radio transmitters work like any radio works. The headphones receive the radio waves through an antenna and covert them in to sound. Infrared headphones work more like a TV remote. The sound is carried through an optical signal and converted in to sound. Bluetooth headphones work much like radio transmitters, but they use a low frequency to encode digital knowledge that is then converted to sound.
Pros And Cons
Each form comes with its own downsides. In order for infrared to be effective, you must maintain a clear line of sight between the transmitter and the wireless headphones. This limitation is not useful to the wanderer, but infrared does work well for TV headsets. Radio and Bluetooth don't need a clear line of sight. However, radio can sometimes pick up interference from other devices. Usually radio headphones come with a few channels to keep away from this. Finally, Bluetooth has a more limited range than radio, but it offers less interference.

Do You Need a Headphone Amp

Thinking about purchasing a headphone amp? Powered speakers usually remove the necessity for an amp in your speaker setup, but headphones sometimes warrant a headphone amp because they don't have the benefit of a power source. How do you know in case you need a headphone amp? To get a nice suggestion of whether or not you need a headphone amp, you need to understand a tiny about how sound processing works.
Understanding sound processing: why a headphone amp is useful.
When you are listening to music from a computer or other digital source, vital piece of equipment is the DAC, or digital to analog converter. The DAC converts the digital language to electrical current that makes the magnets in your headphones vibrate, producing sound.
Most soundcards include a built-in DAC to decode signals and produce sound, but the signal is weak to be used when it comes directly from the DAC. It's to go through an amplifier to produce sound for you to listen to music from your headphones or speakers. Powered speakers include a built-in amplifier to boost the signal power so that you can actually listen to it. However, most headphones don't have a power source, so you'll either must depend on some kind of onboard headphone preamp, or you might need a separate headphone amp in order to listen to signal that comes from a DAC.
Why having a nice headphone amp matters.
Headphone amplifiers don't increase the volume of sound. Headphone amplifiers control the electrical signal that goes to your headphones and produces sound. This matters because a exact electrical signal is much more correct than an imprecise or fluctuating signal. Therefore, you listen to better quality sound with a nice headphone amp than with a poor, as the electrical signal transmits more exactly to your headphones. Plenty of good-quality headphone amps also give you the choice to increase or decrease the bass independently, to produce the sound exactly as you like it.
possibilities usually come from having a nice headphone amp: either you'll listen to your music at a lower volume because it basically sounds better and you can make out individual details without cranking it, or you'll listen to it at a higher volume but enjoy sound free from distortion. Either way, headphone amplifiers provide a win-win situation; high-quality sound that you can enjoy at a broad range of volume levels, not very low or very high.
Be cautious with the volume levels on your headphone amp.
Your ears are the most fragile piece of equipment in your sound setup, so don't use a headphone amp as an excuse to blast music loudly and destroy your hearing. Invest in a good-quality headphone amp that might be a bit more expensive, but provides better sound quality so you needn't listen to it loudly to listen to it. And keep in mind - always be cautious along with your volume levels to keep away from damaging your hearing.

How Do Headphones Work

How do headphones work? They bring your favourite songs directly to your ear, but few people understand how this happens. Well, you may need to turn down the volume a tad & prepare to crank up the knowledge. Let's take a glance at how headphones work.
Cones & Coils
Headphones work like the loudspeakers on your stereo work, only on a smaller scale. Satisfied? Of coursework you are not. Here's how loudspeakers work. Sound travels in waves, & something is necessary to produce those waves. Speakers of any kind, be they loudspeakers or earbud headphones, have a cone that vibrates to produce sound waves. This cone is made out of a plastic or paper fiber. Behind the cone is a metal coil. When your headphones are plugged in to an MP3 player, an electrical signal is being sent through the wires to the metal coil. The conductivity of the metal coil causes it to generate an electromagnetic field.
How do Headphones Work: Magnets & Sound Waves
Positioned behind the coil is a permanent magnet. You have probably noticed that, in case you let a pair of earbuds dangle, they will appear to stick together. This is because of the magnets in both. When the coil is magnetized, it is either pulled or repelled by the permanent magnet. This motion creates the sound waves that our ears can pick up. New headphones that utilize wireless know-how work in the same way. Except in their case, a radio signal is being transmitted to trigger electrical impulses that vibrate the cone.
All right, now you can crank up the volume again. But not loud because you know now that headphones send sound waves straight to your eardrums, & long exposure to loud headphones may cause hearing damage. So, rock on in moderation.

Tube Headphone Amps and Other Audio Luxuries

Audiophiles are choosy about their headphones, but the must-have accessories for every audiophile are tube headphone amps. Headphone amplifiers range from a simple headphone preamp to complicated headphone amplifiers with integrated DACs.
What is with the Tubes?
Audiophiles have strict requirements when it comes to headphones. Low-end headphones produce flat sound, distortion & overall low-quality sound. Most audiophiles are not content with high-end headphones, though; they also need headphone amplifiers to be positive the electrical signal that reaches their expensive headphones is high-quality, correct & exact. Audiophiles covet tube headphone amps because they are the best headphone amplifiers available. Tube headphone amps produce rich, lively sound with vivid detail; the signal quality is incredible, with virtually no integrity loss. Devotees also note that tube amps add a warmth to sound that electronic amps basically cannot match.
What Do Tube Amps Cost?
Tube headphone amps come in low-end & high-end versions. As with other audio equipment, you'll see a significant cost difference between the extremes. At the low finish, you can get first rate tube headphone amps for around $500. At the high finish, tube headphone amps basically cost over $2,000, & you can get custom tube headphone amps at an even higher cost. Compare that with regular headphone amplifiers at $50 $200, & you see why tube headphone amps are strictly for audiophiles.
If you are shopping on a budget, keep in mind that the quality of the vacuum tubes has a large impact on cost. You might be able to start out with a low-end tube amp, then upgrade the tubes themselves to get better sound. Check online reviews & speak with salespeople to see if a given model supports this sort of upgrade.
How to Choose Tube Headphone Amps
The main features to look for in tube amps include top-notch power conditioning that delivers smooth, even power for maximum listening pleasure. You'll also require to look for calm tubes; some low-end tube amps put out an undercurrent hum, which can distort or cover low-level detail. Look for tube headphone amps that run calm, without the hum, & you'll listen to details in your music that you never noticed before.
Other High-End Audiophile Luxuries
Power conditioners are a basic piece in any audiophile's arsenal that you most likely would not find in Average Joe's audio setup. Audiophiles place great emphasis on power source, as a neat & well-regulated power source produces high-quality sound with less distortion than a "dirty" power source. Power conditioners can range from a couple hundred dollars to over a thousand.
Plenty of audiophiles prefer analog recordings to digital, citing a warmth in analog recordings lacking in digital sources. These audiophiles keep high-end turntables, magnetic cartridges & tonearms to produce high-quality analog playback from vinyl records. Consummate audiophiles spend thousands of dollars on this high-end analog playback equipment.

The Best Noise Cancelling Headphones Reviewed

Noise-cancelling headphones use one of two strategies to enable you to listen to your music in loud places: passive noise reduction (or noise isolation), in which a physical barrier prevents outside sounds reaching your ear, and active noise reduction (or noise cancellation), in which ambient noise is monitored and canceled out with a competing sound wave. Headphones fall into three categories, in ear or intra-aural, on the ear or super-aural, and over the ear or circum-aural. Here are the best noise-cancelling headphones in each category.
Intra-aural headphones
Intra-aural wireless headphones are often called ear buds because they sit in the ear like a hearing aid. Due to the way they physically block the ear canal, they have excellent passive noise reduction if they are a good fit. Unfortunately, finding a good fit without resorting to custom-made models can be a bit of a nightmare, and wearing a poor fit for prolonged periods can get uncomfortable.
Noise-cancelling, in-ear headphones tend to be expensive compared to other types of a similar quality, because the batteries in them have to be both tiny and powerful. That comes with a cost. Top picks for intra-aural, noise-cancelling headphones are:
Bowers & Wilkins C5 in-ear noise-isolating headphones. At around $180, they're not cheap, the Secure Loop, designed to be infinitely adjustable to every ear, is fiddly and can be uncomfortable on the ridge of the ear. But if you can get a good fit, the sound is impressive and noise-cancelling excellent.
ShureR SE425. Coming in closer to the $300 mark, these little beauties are sleek and tough. KevlarR-coated wires mean you shouldn't break them easily, and they come with a range of gel tips to make finding a snug fit in the ear easier. Although some people find they have a lack of bass, sound clarity in the middle and top registers are faultless.
Super-aural headphones
Super-aural headphones sit on the ear without completely covering it. While this means they don't get hot and they tend to be lightweight, it also means they provide a poor physical barrier and can be uncomfortable to wear for long periods. Top picks include:
Bose Quiet ComfortR 3. The softest leather, more padding than most over-ear headphones and the high quality of Bose don't come cheap. At around $349, these are the most expensive over-ear headphones that made the top-picks list. But if you can afford them, you will appreciate the difference.
Just sneaking into the sub-$200, mid-budget range, the SonyR MDR-NC200D at $199 is a solid second choice. The leather padding isn't quite as comfortable, they don't look as good and they produce the slightest audible hiss with noise-cancelling switched on, but they represent a good compromise between price and performance.
If you're prepared to forgo the comfort factor somewhat in favor of a truly lightweight budget option, Audio-Technica QuietPointR ATH-ANC1 headphones, with a list price of $130 but available online closer to $80, could be a viable choice. They're not going to give you the same sound quality as more expensive headphones, but they do offer excellent noise-cancellation for the price.
Circum-aural headphones
These are the big boys that sit comfortably around the ear rather than on it, creating a strong physical sound barrier that can get a little over-heated after a while. Circum-aural, noise-cancelling headphones are the ones that cocoon you in your own bubble of sound and transport you to another universe.
For quality in the $200-plus price range, it's hard to choose between Bose Quiet Comfort 15s and Sennheiser PCX450s. Both offer excellent noise-cancelling, comfort and quality, so it really is a matter of personal preference. With both models available around $250 to $280, there's not even much in it price-wise.
Although the list price on Audio Technica ATH-ANC7 is $219, you should be able to pick them up at less than $150, which makes them a high quality choice with a reasonable price tag. They are comfortable, if a little bulky, and do the job almost as well as their pricier competitors.
With a list price of $99.95, Plane QuietR Platinum headphones offer a comfortable budget option, and they're the only headphones in any category less than $100 to make the grade. They are extremely comfortable and produce a balanced sound with good noise-cancelling. Although the noise cancellation switch is located inconveniently on the cord, it's a small price to pay for a large savings.

2013 Best Noise-Canceling Headphones

Passive vs. Active Expertise
Passive noise-canceling headphones work by blocking noise from reaching your ears. This method involves giant earpieces that entirely cover your ears, combined with thick pieces of foam to insulate your ears from outside noises. This design is called circumaural noise-canceling headphones.
Another popular passive design includes earbuds that actually fit inside your ear, designed to deliver sound directly to your ear canal & block out outside sound like earplugs. Regrettably, passive noise-canceling headphones by themselves are usually not all that effective in actually cancelling noises, so lots of companies combine passive noise-canceling headphones with active noise-canceling expertise.
Active noise-canceling headphones use actual noise-canceling expertise to reduce noise levels, usually combined with a passive approach to help prevent exterior noise from reaching your ear canals. High-end active noise-canceling expertise makes use of a built-in microphone to monitor environmental noise, & generate a counter-frequency to -cancel' the noise.
However, lots of low-end active noise-canceling headphones don't include the microphone & ability to analyze environmental noise & produce noise-canceling inverse signals, so they basically produce low-level white noise designed to drown out auditory distractions.
Active or Reactive?
Because active noise-canceling headphones work by making a counter-signal to -block' the undesirable outside noise, you usually experience a slight delay between the headphones detecting noise & the noise-canceling expertise blocking it. This means that noise-canceling headphones are most effective at blocking constant noise, such as an airplane, train or automobile noise, & less effective at intermittent sounds, such as dog barking, children crying or horns honking.
The Limits of Noise-Canceling Expertise
Before you can choose if noise-canceling headphones are worth the cost, ask yourself what you require from a pair of noise-canceling headphones. Would you like something to block out most of the outside noise, leaving you with a comparatively audible listening experience? Or would you like noise-canceling headphones to surround you in a cone of silence, removing you from the outside world & delivering crystal-clear sound? If you are looking for the second option, you are probably not going to be happy with any set of noise-canceling headphones. They can eliminate lots of outside sound, but even the best noise-canceling headphones cannot block out everything.
The Wireless Option
Wireless noise-canceling headphones are another matter entirely. Wireless headphone expertise in general is not up to the level of sound quality provided by corded headphones. Noise-canceling headphones are imperfect. Combine the, & you have wireless noise-canceling headphones with mediocre sound & mediocre noise-cancellation. You can buy high-end wireless noise-canceling headphones for over $400 that produce reasonable quality results with both audio & noise-canceling, but for the most part, your best bet for wireless noise-canceling headphones is finding a passive, in-ear design.

How Do Noise Cancelling Headphones Work

How do noise cancelling headphones work? If you are on an airplane or a busy street, all that background noise can ruin your listening experience. Let's take a glance at how noise reducing headphones seek to eliminate this ambient noise and give you a more enjoyable listening experience.
Passive Noise Reduction
The first way to block outside noise is called passive noise reduction. These are headphones that are designed with a special foam padding or other insulation to absorb outside sound before it reaches your ears. These headphones fit snugly around one's ears and can block out ambient noise up to twenty decibels. These are ideal for at home, cafes or riding the subway.
Active Noise Reduction
But what if the noise is louder than twenty decibels, like the noise coming from a jet engine? Fortunately, there is another type of noise cancelling headphone, called active reduction, that utilizes some icy gadgetry. They can block out  any background noise, making them the final travel headphones for the frequent flyer. They are formed much like their passive counterparts, except both headphones contain a special microphone. The microphone picks up background noise. The noise is then replicated and played back through outside speakers on the ear cups, like a mirror picture of the sound coming in. The mirror picture sound wave actually cancels out the ambient noise so the listener is left with a pristine audio session.
Since this method takes energy, active reduction headphones must be battery operated. But the trade off is worth it. Aside from being able to listen to music peacefully, these headphones can be used to get silence for the weary traveler to catch some Z's or generate a calm sanctuary for thought.

What Makes Audiophile Headphones So Desirable

Audiophiles are passionate about their music. Budget audiophiles spend thousands of dollars on a sound setup, while high-end audiophiles get in to the tens of thousands of dollars for their sound systems. With all that money spent on the sound method, audiophiles would never neglect the final piece: headphones. How do audiophile headphones differ from the stereo headphones that the remainder of us use?
Audiophile headphones are designed to work with audiophile systems.
Most audiophiles break their method down in to parts that deliver the best feasible sound. Audiophiles usually have headphone amplifiers solely to drive audiophile headphones, as plenty of audiophile headphones need additional power to drive them. Think about regular stereo headphones. When you plug them in to your iPod or laptop computer, the power for the headphones comes directly from the source. However, that limits your listening experience to comparatively little stereo headphones able to being powered by the source.
High-end audiophile headphones, such as plenty of Sennheiser models, are huge headphones with lots of internal equipment designed to deliver high-quality sound. In plenty of cases, these audiophile headphones need much power; they need a separate headphone amp in order to work. Most average listeners don't have a headphone amp at all, so these audiophile headphones are not available for the general public.
Diaphragms & reflectors & neodymium magnets, oh my!
Let's face it; audiophile headphones basically are not made in the same way as the stereo headphones that they Average Joes use. Audiophile headphones include things like special diaphragms designed to reduce intermodulation, surround reflectors to generate the auditory illusion of space around the listener, & neodymium magnets to produce superior sound quality. Audiophiles need their headphones to sound like listening to music in a room where it is actually being played, & they need specialized know-how to accomplish that experience.
Audiophile headphones usually include isolation know-how.
By their design, audiophile headphones usually block out exterior noise. With the circumaural design that plenty of audiophiles prefer, your ears are enclosed in a thick layer of foam that serves purposes: to move the speakers away from the ears to help generate the illusion of space, to insulate you from outside noises & to provide comfort.
However, some audiophiles would have canalphones; that is, audiophile headphones that fit directly in to your ear canal. Canalphones provide the same isolation from outside noises, usually blocking 20-25dB of environmental noise, functioning much like earplugs. However, they deliver sound directly to the ear canals, which usually requires less power & less volume.
Compare this with the stereo headphones that the remainder of us use. Most headphone designs for use with MP3 players & laptops are either semi-aural , which fit over the ear but don't cover & insulate it like the circumaural design, or earbuds, which fit in to the ear but not inside like canalphones. These stereo headphones are easy-to-use on the go, but don't provide the same listening experience as audiophile headphones.
