JVC HAFR50 “Marshmallow” with Mic and Remote Headphones Review

The JVC HAFR50 is a new addition to the JVC Marshmallow series. These headphones come with 8.5mm drivers that deliver crisp audio quality and feature a built-in remote control and mic that allows you to listen to your music and take phone calls on the go. The design and style matches best with iPod, iPhone, or iPad.

The build quality of the JVC HAFR50 Marshmallow is similar to other JVC earphones we’ve reviewed so far – the housing is plastic, the eartips are covered with soft rubber, and the cord is thick and sturdy. The headphones are very lightweight with a tight wrap up for easy portability.

The enlarged driver unit is intended to provide wider dynamic range and improved bass response. The length of the cord is 3.94ft with a gold-plated slim jack connector.

The audio performance of the JVC HAFR50 Marshmallow is pretty impressive especially for its price tag. The bass response and highs are impeccably great, but cranking up the volume more than 95% makes the sound break up significantly, so keep it around 60% or 70% volume to enjoy the detailed and crisp audio quality, and pleasing bass response.

The JVC HAFR50 Marshmallow isolates an above average external noise, which would be best to use while commuting in bus, train, or plane. The earphones come with two different sets of memory foam earpieces that minimize the pressure in the ear canal, but may not be comfortable to wear for extended period of time listening to your music, and tend to fall out from your ears when you move around too much.

However, the in-line remote and mic add a lot of appeal of the earphone when it comes to usability. The remote allows the users to control the volume, make phone calls, or take voice memos from their iPhone.

JVC’s Marshmallow series are top contenders in their respective price category. The list price of the JVC HAFR50 “Marshmallow” with Mic and Remote Headphones is $39.95. But you can buy a pair on Amazon at $25.40. This model is a very good buy at this price point if you are searching for durable earphones that deliver great sound, above average noise isolation, and comfort. They work best with iPod shuffle, iPod nano, iPod Classic, iPod Touch, iPhone, iPad, and other MP3 players.
